Has anyone ever driven around in town without complete car documents? What do you do when you see a police stop sign? Even if you have done nothing wrong,you start panicking. It happened to me a short while ago when i had not bought my vignette (windscreen license). Everytime i saw a police car cruise by,i panicked. I sat up straighter,was more focused and so nervous i was sure the policeman could see my pounding heart. Why? Because i knew the policeman had been given authority to accuse me and find me guilty if i did not have complete car documents. I knew that any policeman would have the legal right to fine me if i was caught without a windscreen license. I actually got stopped once and i refused bribing and the policeman delayed me for almost an hour. I believe it was my husband who finally came and solved that problem as my former explosive self, i had had it out with the guy. I told him i had the money to buy the vignette and if he presented it, i would buy it but he would hear none of it.
When Adam sinned, he gave the devil authority over the earth. The devil was able to torture and prey on people because they had sin in their lives and were not living according to God's word. But what happened when Jesus died for us? He completed our documents for us!!! He gave us our laissez passer. We just need to believe in Him and take it.
Philippians 2:9 Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name;10 that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth.
What happens when we live in sin? We live in guilt and we cannot be totally free. We know deep down in us that what we are doing is wrong and therefore we live with the spirit of fear in our lives. We know that we can be condemned by the devil but feel powerless to do anything because we know our hearts are not clean and if we stand before a judge, the devil has a legal right to imprison us because we accept his ways. Imagine you are standing before God tomorrow and your case before him is being argued between the devil and Jesus. Imagine the devil saying : " God, this one belongs to me. He/she steals, lies, commits adultery, commits fornication, bears false witness against her neighbors, gossips, idulges in witch craft etc...i have the legal right to claim him/her" and imagine you looking desperately to Jesus, and He shakes His head sadly and says " I do not recognize your voice. If you had just called on my name and believed in me..."
Acts 2:38 Peter said to them “Repent, and be baptized, everyone of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Unlike getting a windscreen license for your car, calling on the name of Jesus is free. He had paid for and completed your documents for you to operate with authority on the earth when He died on the cross and His blood was shed. His blood is the official seal which opens all doors and gives you dominion over all the creatures of the earth. When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you claim that price he paid by dieing on the cross for you. You get your confidence in that promise that if God is for you, then no one can be against you.
Are you living in fear of the unknown? Do you live in worries about tomorrow? If you have Jesus in your life and stay connected to Him in spirit, then you must know that you have the highest commissioner of police as your father. I remember when we were in the university, i had a friend whose last name was Musonge. At that time, Peter Musonge was the prime minister of the republic of Cameroon. My friend had absolutely no relationship to Musonge, but he did sort of look like the prime minister as he was dark and liked to keep his hair overgrown. At one time, there was a raid at night and he was among those picked up after curfew hours without walking with an ID card. He called home and asked his younger sister to bring his ID and he told the police people they will be sorry. When they saw his ID card with the name Musonge, they started begging him. They actually drove him back in their car to where he wanted to go to. The power of a name of authority!
People, we have a father whose name commands more power than the president. But it is no use using his name if the world knows we are an estranged son of the president.
Is there any sin that is holding you back and keeping you from enjoying the full priviledge of being a child of God? Examine yourselves, confess your sins and submit to Jesus so you can use that name of His with full authority without anyone questioning you. Get complete in Jesus so you can go about with full confidence that you are backed by He whose name is above all names!
